Axminster Drama Club (A.D.C.) was formed in 1945 and has grown to be a major group in amateur dramatics in the East Devon area. The club is fortunate in having it’s own premises, The Plaza, an old dance hall from a bygone era, which serves as our scenery, lighting equipment, costume and props store, rehearsal space, workshops and club room. The building is located directly behind The Guildhall, in West Street, Axminster, and it is this theatre that we use for all our productions.
The club currently has a membership of over 100 covering all ages and all the various skills that are necessary to put on quality productions. Membership is open to all, from the age of 14 upwards.
We aim to put on at least two productions each year, a pantomime in January and a play - be it comedy, drama etc - in the summer. There is also a Club Night - again held in the Guildhall - where members perform songs, one-act plays, sketches and so on for the benefit of other members, an informal evening that is complemented with a bar and buffet supper.
In the Autumn the club has a walking entry, the theme of which is usually related to the next pantomime, in the Axminster Carnival.
In addition theatre workshops and social events are organized as required.
The group is a registered charity and does not receive any monetary support from local organizations - our funding being through our own efforts such as an annual Christmas Fayre as well as from, hopefully, the productions that we stage.
